6:00 pm       Public Debate

The topic for the public debate will be decided by conducting a poll on the A. Craig Baird Debate Forum website at https://debate.uiowa.edu/. To participate in the poll, please visit the team’s website and complete the poll. The poll is currently open and will close on March 1 to give time for the debaters to prepare for the debate event. The public debate will be available via Zoom at https://uiowa.zoom.us/j/91059884556.

List of Possible Topics:

Resolved: Joe Biden should not run for President in the 2024 election.

Resolved: The United States economy shall soon experience a deep recession.

Resolved: Democracy in the United States is a failed experiment.

Resolved: The American health care industry should adopt a policy expanding the use of artificial intelligence in medical procedures.

Option A: 11 am – 2 pm   Picnic and Games in the Black Box Theater at the IMU.

Picnic fare shall be available for lunch beginning at 11 am. There will be two tournament competitions during this event – cornhole and darts. You can sign up for one or both of the tournaments on the team’s website at https://debate.uiowa.edu/. The sign-up form will give you the option of identifying a teammate to partner with or one will be assigned to you. Prizes will be awarded.

Option B: 10 am               Golf outing at Finkbine

Tee times will begin at 10 am. You can sign up for this option on the team’s website at https://debate.uiowa.edu/. The form will have a place to identify any other members (up to three) you want to be paired with during the day. The number of groups is determined by the number of alumni selecting this option. Prizes will be awarded.

4:30 pm – 5:30 pm        Social Mixer in the Black Box Theater at the IMU.

Small hors d’oeuvres and drinks shall be available.

5:30 pm – 7 pm            Alumni Testimonial Event in the Black Box Theater at the IMU

Each decade shall be given 10 minutes to share stories about their time debating at Iowa or how debate influences their life and/or career.
